Our History

Founded in 2017, Aurora Strategies Group was born out of a simple yet powerful belief: that trust is the cornerstone of every successful financial institution. Established by former regulator Marcia Ellery, banking strategist Thomas Kei, and technology consultant Rajan Boudreaux, Vireon set out to redefine how banks and credit unions approach financial oversight in an increasingly complex regulatory environment.

What began as a small consultancy quickly grew into a nationally recognized firm specializing in financial control services. The founders, with over 50 years of combined experience in compliance auditing, risk mitigation, and financial systems integration, shared a vision for a firm that could offer not just regulatory assurance, but long-term strategic value.

In our early years, Aurora focused on core compliance audits, helping community banks meet the heightened demands of post-recession legislation. By 2019, we had expanded our offerings to include internal controls testing, fraud risk analysis, and governance assessments, allowing clients to reinforce trust with stakeholders while minimizing operational vulnerabilities.

Our growth accelerated in 2021 with the launch of AURA, our proprietary audit automation platform. Leveraging predictive analytics and machine learning, AURA revolutionized how our clients managed reporting cycles, detected anomalies, and prepared for regulatory reviews. The result was faster audits, deeper insights, and more confident decision-making across the board.

As financial institutions faced rising cyber threats and evolving fintech landscapes, we evolved too. Between 2022 and 2024, Aurora added specialized services in cybersecurity compliance, digital ledger auditing, and real-time transaction monitoring. These services positioned us as strategic partners not only for traditional banks but also for digital-first financial service providers navigating new terrain.

Throughout our journey, we’ve remained committed to client collaboration and education. Whether hosting compliance workshops in small-town credit unions or delivering keynote addresses at national banking forums, our team is passionate about fostering a culture of transparency and resilience.

Today, Aurora Compliance Group serves over 200 financial institutions across 28 states. Our reputation for integrity, innovation, and personalized service continues to grow — and so does our responsibility to lead. As we look ahead, our mission is unchanged: to empower the financial sector with the tools, knowledge, and assurance needed to thrive in a world of constant change.
